Vanni : A lot of the bands sadly split up. I see that the movement is silenced for some time now. In the 90’s and 00’s Italy produced some of the finest Epic metal music there was. All went well and after the show we asked him if he wanted to play some parts in our new album then. Vanni : We met the night before we played on keep it true festival and asked him if he would like to join us on stage to play Revelation (Death’s Angel) from Into Glory Ride. The idea is to have Carmina Barbarica remastered and to re-record three of its songs Thermopiles, Under the sign of Odin’s ravens and Lord Of The Wind with the new drummer.Įpos, the second album featured the legendary Ross the boss on two songs (piano on mother forest and guitar on Spartacus).
What are your thoughts on this record today? Vanni : I think this record has the right mood but the production could be better. Carmina Barbarica fell like a lightning bolt on our heads back then. Every time we had to start from scratch with the recordings. We changed a lot of bass players and drummers. Why did it take you so long to release it? Vanni : Cause we had a lot of problems with musicians. Under the sign of Odin’s crows, your second demo was released seven years later. Epic metal was appealing to a small proportion of metal fans.
Some of them didn’t even know Manowar, so you understand how it was. People were asking me what kind of music I sing and play, what was my favorite kind of metal music. Can you describe the situation in the Italian metal scene in the 90’s? Vanni : It was a strange time back then. You released the legendary Thunderstorm demo in 1993. As for the Metal press, we always got nice reviews so we can’t complain. Looking back at your career so far, are you satisfied with what you accomplished and with how people and metal press treated the band? Vanni : Yeah, we are very satisfied with the course of the band so far. Even if you fall after a ‘fight’ you must find the strength to get up, challenge life and try to survive. What is your philosophy about life? Vanni : My philosophy in life is that there is only one destiny for everyone but we have to live a life of honor and strength. There exists also a strong sense of pride and valor in your writings. Vanni you write all the lyrics for the band, always dealing with historic, mythological and fantasy issues. What about the artwork of the album? Do you have anything specific in mind? Vanni : We haven’t yet decided on the cover art but the booklet of the cd will contain the whole story in pictures. Am I right? Vanni: Musically yes but not lyrically. I guess Richard Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen opera was a huge influence on the synthetic part of the record. Every song is based on the main episodes of the saga. Vanni: Yes it is based on the 13th century masterpiece. Nibelungenlied of course will be based on the epic German poem ‘The Song of the Nibelungs’.

So now we have a new drummer who wanted to re-record all the parts which was a big delay but we think Emiliano is here to stay.Ģ015 will be the year of the release of the 3rd full length Wotan album. He already recorded all the drum parts of the new album but then he left the band. The fact is that we had a little problem with our previous drummer. Is this tour a chance to take a little break from working on the new album? Give me some details on how this effort is going so far. Trikala is the first stop of the Into glory live special tour.
